Common questions about choosing furniture that fits

How much space should I leave around living room furniture?

For main walkways, aim for about 30–36 inches when your room allows it. Smaller pass-through areas can work with less, but the room should still feel easy to move through.

How do I know what sofa size will fit my room?

Measure the usable wall or seating zone, then account for doors, windows, vents, tables and walking paths. Use the calculator’s recommended range as a shopping target rather than choosing from room width alone.

How large should a coffee table be compared with a sofa?

A coffee table often looks most balanced when it is roughly two-thirds the length of the sofa, with enough clearance around it for comfortable movement and reach.

Should a TV stand be wider than the TV?

Usually, yes. A media console that extends beyond the TV on both sides tends to look more balanced and gives you useful surface and storage space.

Can I preview furniture I already own?
