What size bed fits comfortably in my bedroom?
Use the room dimensions, usable headboard-wall width, nightstands, other furniture, and your preferred walking clearance together. A mattress may technically fit while still making the room feel cramped, so circulation matters just as much as bed width.
How much walking space should I leave around a bed?
About 24 inches can be workable in tighter rooms, around 30 inches is comfortable for everyday use, and roughly 36 inches feels more generous where the room allows it. Door swings and closet access may require additional space.
How wide should nightstands be compared with the bed?
Nightstands should feel proportional to the bed without using up the walking clearance you need. This calculator uses your available wall space and selected bed size to suggest a practical width range.
How big should art be above a bed?
A useful starting point is for the overall artwork or arrangement to span roughly 60–75% of the bed or headboard width. Large beds can often support a wider grouping, while the calculator adjusts the recommended range to the dimensions you enter.
How high should decor hang above a headboard?
Most above-bed decor looks connected to the bed when the bottom begins roughly 6–10 inches above the headboard. Shelves may need a little more breathing room, while sconces are usually positioned beside the headboard rather than directly over the mattress.
Can I preview above-bed decor in my own room?
